The new cybersecurity strategy outlines the intent to develop the capability of military and defence establishments to identify, detect, and effectively deter any form of organised cyber-attack on the nation. The new strategy outlines the requirement for all stakeholders in the defence sector to coordinate activities and to develop an effective cyber defence plan to protect Nigerian cyberspace.

There is a focus to develop the necessary capabilities to effectively defend the country’s Critical National Information Infrastructure, government ICT assets, and military networks and systems, against cyber attacks. It also recognises the importance of ensuring that law enforcement has the legislation, training and resources required to counter cyber crime and ensure that malicious actors are deterred. Further, it reflects on the necessity for close collaboration across government, the private sector and international partners in order to achieve these goals.
