Our Education sector has a crucial role in developing the talent that will drive the future prosperity and growth of our country. It also has a responsibility to protect those people and their data. Cybersecurity human resource development and skills acquisition is instrumental to the creation of the enabling digital environment for online economic activities that will be central to economic growth. In the new cybersecurity strategy the Government is setting the guidelines for the creation of pathways for the generation of a new indigenous cyber workforce. It will work with education providers and employers to enhance the availability, uptake and quality of education in cybersecurity, and encourage cybersecurity skills acquisition and professional development.

But the education sector must also work to protect their students and their data better. Recent global trends have seen education providers targeted by malicious cyber actors. The new strategy is led by Government but responsibility for enacting it lies with everyone and education providers must ensure that appropriate cybersecurity policies and practices are in place and that their students are provided with simple and straightforward advice on how to protect themselves and their friends.
